Structure, not soup
Paperly attempts to rebuild headings, lists and simple tables. Complex layouts and merged cells may need manual correction.
Convert documents to Markdown and export them back —
ready for notes, knowledge bases and AI workflows.
Free while in beta · up to 8 files · no account
Paste Markdown and export a basic document locally.
Basic exports may change formatting. Word export may lose list numbering, links and images. Excel exports each Markdown table to a separate sheet; PowerPoint uses headings for slides. Review exported documents before using them.
Less copy-paste. More actual work.

Conversion runs locally on your machine. Your documents are never uploaded to our servers.
Copy formatted text into Notion, Docs or Word, or download a .zip for your Obsidian vault. Check the formatting after pasting.
Paperly reads a PDF's text layer, and recognises scanned pages locally with OCR — English or Chinese, models load on first use. Some inline sub- and superscripts are rebuilt as $math$, and detected display equations are kept as images in the ZIP download. Ordinary PDF illustrations are not extracted. Complex tables may lose rows or columns; compare important values with the original. LaTeX recognition, handwriting and charts are not supported. Office and HTML imports may lose list, link and table structure; spreadsheet formulas without saved results may be blank and dates may appear as numbers. Review the output before relying on it.
What the converter does, and where it stops.
No. Conversion runs inside the browser tab. There is no server endpoint that accepts documents, and the converter keeps working after you go offline.
PDF, Word (.docx), Excel (.xlsx), PowerPoint (.pptx), HTML, EPUB, CSV, plain text, Markdown and images. Output is Markdown, which can then be exported to HTML, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, EPUB, an image or a printed PDF.
Yes. Pages without a text layer are rendered to a canvas and read by a local OCR model in English or Simplified Chinese. The model downloads on first use and stays cached.
The beta is free and needs no account. Paid plans with batch limits are planned; the free tier will keep working.
